Muncie Arts & Culture Council is pleased to invite you to the 2019 Mayor’s Arts Awards to be celebrated September 13, 2019 at Muncie Civic Theatre!

The Mayor’s Arts Awards recognizes the contributions to the cultural community by all visual, performing, and culinary artists, musicians, writers, poets, rappers, directors, producers, craftspeople, arts educators, arts patrons, arts professionals and volunteers, as well as organizations, institutions, government agencies, corporations, and businesses who work in or for the arts primarily benefiting the residents of Muncie. The goal of this program is to help cultivate greater visibility and understanding of the value of the arts, as well as grow new leadership and new patrons of the arts. The 3rd biennial Mayor’s Arts Awards are presented by Old National Bank.

To mark a decade of Muncie Arts & Culture Council, we’re taking this year’s Mayor’s Arts Awards to the next level and looking forward to a truly spectacular celebration of our arts communities! This arts-filled evening will be led by masters of ceremonies Laura Williamson of Muncie Civic Theatre and Michelle Kinsey of Indiana Public Radio. Enjoy live musical and theatrical performances between award announcements, and stay for the community reception featuring music by DJ Jannell, locally brewed beers on tap, and late night snacks. The award ceremony and following reception are open to the public and free for all to attend.

2019 Mayor’s Arts Awards

The Muncie Arts and Culture Council in conjunction with the City of Muncie will celebrate the 3rd biennial Mayor’s Arts Awards on Friday, September 13, 2019 at Muncie Civic Theatre. The Mayor’s Arts Awards aim to cultivate greater visibility and understanding of the value of the arts, as well as grow new leadership and new patrons of the arts.

2019 MAA Nominees

The Mayor’s Arts Awards are the most prestigious honors conferred by the city on individual artists, teachers, nonprofit organizations, patrons of the arts, and more.

Nominations are accepted in the following categories:

Arts Advocate – an individual or organization whose strong support of the arts has been ongoing through philanthropic and/or volunteer service

Arts Leader – an arts professional or organization who has demonstrated outstanding leadership, organizational stewardship and partnership within the local arts community

Arts Educator – an individual whose achievements and contributions to arts education have been significant and far reaching

Corporate Arts – a business/corporation that shows exemplary support of the arts, artists, and arts organizations within the Muncie area

Artist in the Community – an individual artist (in any discipline) recognized for artistic excellence and singular efforts in contributing to Muncie’s cultural vitality

Next Generation Artist – a working artist/craftsman (in any discipline) under the age of 40 who has demonstrated outstanding promise and commitment to the arts community

Maker – a local, for-profit business owner who exemplifies the impact and vitality of Muncie’s creative economy

Lifetime Achievement – an individual or organization recognized for significant and sustained contributions to the field of arts and culture in the Muncie area

The recipients of the 2019 Mayor’s Arts Awards will be announced at a gala event at Muncie Civic Theatre, September 13th. The Mayor’s Arts Awards are the most prestigious honors conferred by the City of Muncie on individual artists, teachers, non-profit organizations and patrons of the arts. Those recognized will receive their award, a proclamation from the Mayor, and select categories include a cash stipend to further the recipients own creative works.
