Director’s Notes – August 2016

Summer of 2016 has been unusually busy for artists and arts organizations around Muncie. For MACC, much of our efforts have gone into our continued development of the artist culture in MadJax, the Muncie makers hub opening soon. We will have more to announce on that initiative in the very near future. But in the meantime, we continue to be asked for involvement in special projects around the city (cross walk painting, banners for downtown buildings, murals) and today want to announce a “Call to Artists” to be part of one such initiative.

Many in our community are familiar with the annual 100 Men Who Cook¬†event that is organized and produced by Old National Bank in November. This fundraiser utilizes 100 men in our community, who by displaying their culinary expertise, have raised 100’s of thousands of dollars for area charities. Old National has decided it’s time to let the women have their shot at showing what they can do, by developing a women’s fund raiser called “Just Desserts” dedicated to raising funds for Champions for a Safe Community.

The mission of Champions for a Safe Community Fund is to provide funding for programming, services, and activities that are intended to reduce violence as well as provide for the protection and care of victims of violence. Champions for a Safe Community Fund grants will provide resources to not-for-profits, civic, business, and government organizations to support the development and delivery of innovative solutions, otherwise unavailable in our community, designed to make our community a safer place to live, work, and play.

In an effort to support Champions for a Safe Community Fund and in partnership with Minnetrista and the Boys & Girls Club of Muncie, Old National is introducing Just Desserts as their first annual fund-raising event. Just Desserts will be an evening to celebrate art, wine, women, and dessert!

Women artists and artisans from our local area will exhibit and demonstrate their work, curated by the Muncie Arts and Culture Council, in the Rose Garden. Attendees can enjoy the exhibit while sipping wine and socializing with friends new and old, and … bidding on amazing, enticing, delectable desserts. This is where you (artists) come in. We’d like to invite you to consider submitting a proposal to be one of our featured artists at the event; a showcase of the best of women artists in our community. Details can be found in the¬†Just Desserts – Call for Artists. We hope you will consider being a part of this exciting new event!
