Artist: Christine Whittemore
Project Title: Coming into Focus
Location: Charles and Mulberry
Statement: Delaware county, as well as many smaller communities within, is in the process of revitalization. Revitalization comes only after rebuilding, growth, learning experiences and a refocus on priorities. Our community is currently in the midst of this process! Once the literal and proverbial dust settles we will be able to see our community come into focus and shine a light throughout Indiana. There is a buzz of hope, possibility and optimism being spread around. The community involvement surrounding current racism events is great evidence of that.
The overall image, of my Box! Box! painting, is faded and difficult to make out clearly defined shapes . However, there are specific circular focal points in which the image "comes into focus" for the viewer. The colorful background shapes and colors represent the diversity of daily life, people, ideals and values. The "focal points" are representative of positive community change, perspective and clarity. These focal points of clarity could come from communities, group leaders or individuals who have discovered a new found perspective on life and its many different facets!
Artist Bio: I am Christine Whittemore. I have been an artist all my life! I love all aspects of creating. I am especially fond of taking something once thought to be useless and transforming it into something useful and beautiful again. My focus is on capturing those unique and fleeting moments in life through art and helping create new ones for my viewers. I graduated from Ball State University in 2003 with an Art Education Degree. I've taught all ages from pre-school to adults throughout my 17-year teaching career. In August 2019, I opened an art studio. Happy Accidents Studio is a transformative art studio, located in Yorktown, IN, that offers painting parties, classes and workshops to the public.
