Artist: Emily Elliott
Title: Muncie in the Third Dimension!
Location: 8th and Batavia
Statement: I am a rather new Muncie resident. I moved last year amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. I have been unable to experience much of Muncie because of health concerns, but as things have been getting safer and opening up, I am excited to start experiencing all the city has to offer. When I first visited Muncie in 2019, one of the first things I noticed was the traffic boxes alongside the road. I immediately thought it was something I wanted to participate in. In high school, I painted a Beatles mural in my mother's music classroom. I knew I had experience painting a large-scale art piece. The inspiration for my box comes from a mixture of B Movies, Japanese kaiju films, Andy Warhol, and 50s pop art. Movies are my favorite artistic medium because they combine so many different practices. Photography, cinematography, theater, writing, editing, music... they are all cells of the body that make up a film. I wanted to create a piece for all the film buffs out there.
