Muncie Arts and Culture Council Announces Spring 2019 PlySpace Residents and Events
PlySpace, an artist-in-residence program of the Muncie Arts and Culture Council, is excited to introduce the Spring Term residents, Kevin Titzer, Siena Hancock, Matt Litwin, and Victoria Eidelsztein, who will be joining PlySpace and residing in Muncie through April 2019. Each resident brings a host of community-focused projects and an array of skills to the Muncie community.
Kevin Titzer, an Evansville, Indiana native hailing from Quebec, will serve as the PlySpace Fellow for the Spring Term. His site-specific installation work is often crafted from materials gathered at the location of construction and formed into improvised house structures. These structures are highly informed by the communities in which they are created. Kevin has been exhibiting professionally in art galleries for twenty years and his work has been shown in Canada, Mexico, Japan, the United Kingdom, and across the United States. While at PlySpace, Kevin will collaborate with foundation level students at Ball State University’s School of Art through workshops on creating sculpture using found and scavenged objects. He will also complete a site-specific installation in the PlySpace Gallery with exhibition dates in April.
Siena Hancock is an interdisciplinary artist from Boston, Massachusetts. She graduated from Massachusetts College of Art with her Bachelors of Fine Arts in 2016, and has recently completed an installation at the Dirt Palace in Providence, Rhode Island and a residency at Main St. Arts in Upstate, New York. Siena will create a multifaceted community project focused on utopian feminism while at PlySpace. She will conduct interviews and ethnographies, develop artist books, and engage in conversations with women around Muncie to gather research about feminism in the Midwest. Her project will culminate in a collaborative public program to be announced later this spring.
Matt Litwin and Victoria Eidelsztein, artists from Buenos Aires, Argentina, will bring their FaceMePorFavor (Face Me Please) street art campaign to Muncie as part of a North American expansion of the project. The artists began FaceMePorFavor with the simple mission of painting portraits as portals to the human spirit. Their goal is to create a visual voice for people to share their hopes and dreams, fears and despair. While at PlySpace, they will collaborate with various Muncie neighborhoods to collect portraits and questionnaires from Muncie citizens through an online portal (www.plyspace.org/facemeporfavor), which will then be used to create wheat-paste murals throughout the city. Muncie citizens are encouraged to participate by submitting their portrait photos for inclusion in the project. The deadline for online submissions is March 10, 2019.
Please join the PlySpace team and Muncie Arts and Culture Council in welcoming these artists to the community. There are numerous upcoming opportunities to interact with the residents and learn more about their upcoming projects.
