Adrienne Dawes - 2019 Summer Resident
Adrienne Dawes is an award-winning playwright and producer originally from Austin, TX. She has been a Literary Fellow at Tulsa Artist Fellowship (George Kaiser Family Foundation) and a NALAC Fund for the Arts grantee. Her plays ask serious questions about race, gender, class, and sexuality (usually) in very comedic ways. Adrienne is a company member of Salvage Vanguard Theater.
While in Muncie, Adrienne worked with local local actors from the Muncie community to share a reading of the first pages of a new play. Within a span of about 10-11 years, Adrienne's family served as a rehabilitative foster home for children with special needs. As part of her residency with PlySpace, Adrienne wrote over 80 pages of the play "Untitled Adoption Project," a dark comedy that explores the evils of well-intentioned people. Auditions for the project were held at PlySpace and three actors were selected to play the roles of Hairy, Sherri, and Ryshi Speyer. A final reading of the play was conducted for the public at PlySpace.
Dawes has continued to develop the project, now titled “Hairy & Sherri”. For details on where you can view the play, please see her website.
