Project Title: Portas

Location: Reserve and McGalliard

Statement: I drew inspiration for this project from my dear friend Moth Danner. Moth encouraged me to create my symmetrical art or “portals” as she calls them. I also drew on my limited knowledge of the Portuguese language and then titled the piece “Portas” which means “Doors”, because we all could use a colorful door to momentarily escape our bleak reality.

Bio: In my art I often use bright colors that are a little unexpected and flamboyant. A particular theme in my art is creating the illusion of movement with my signature swirls. Swirls are used in my art for the waves or sky in a landscape and often in my abstract symmetrical art, or mandalas.

Art has always been a hobby of mine since I was very young. Acrylic painting on canvas became a passion when I was about 21 and I’ve only recently been incorporating other mediums into my style, such as chalk and pastel. My hope is that when viewers come across my art that they are transported into a more vibrant and exotic world.
