Project Title: Curious Owls

Location: 29th and Madison

Statement: Owls are such mystical, elusive creatures, they are so often hidden from our view.  Even those individuals lucky enough to spot one in the wild, rarely will they get close enough to capture their full beauty.  This project offered an opportunity to bring the owls down to eye level, providing passersby a closer view.

The subjects for this project were created with a focus on their animated expressions.  The inquisitive owl on the front of the box is studying all those who cross his path.  On the back, the smaller owl is shocked to be caught hiding in his tree.  Their surrounding environment was inspired by a Washington hiking adventure, on the Pacific Crest Trail. The moon was so full and the only other noticeable feature was the backlit pines that surrounded our camp.

Bio: For as long as I can remember, I have enjoyed creating artwork.  When I was younger, from high school to my twenties, I was fortunate enough to paint quite a few murals.  I work in a variety of art forms including illustration, tattoo design, and painting.  About 5 years ago, I became interested in paper mache sculpture and focused on faux taxidermy, including animal heads, birds of all sizes, and tentacles to name a few.  My current passion is comic book style illustration. A future goal of mine is to create a full graphic novel or illustrate a children's book.  My art studio is located at MadJax in the Co:Lab. You can occasionally find me occupying a space for Muncie's ARTSWALK.  To view more of my artwork, please visit “Aimee Maychack - Artist“ on Facebook.
