Artist: Lily Johnson
Project Title: Rabbit Hole of Memories
Location: McKinley and Jackson
Statement: This project is very personal to me. My entire family was born and raised in Muncie and have ties that go back decades. I want to dedicate this project to my grandmas. Before my grandma, Mary Adkins, died in 2019, she often spoke about seeing bunny rabbits dancing around her hospital room. After her death I often saw rabbits and they have become a symbol of her to my family. My other grandma, Janice Johnson, died when I was in middle school. She was known for her tea parties with her grandkids. I want to incorporate the rabbits having a tea party in a bright and abstract way to bring brightness into Muncie the way my grandmothers did.
My favorite forms of creation are painting, drawing, and digital media. I love working with acrylics and watercolor. I enjoy the use of color and create pieces inspired by nature. I like using abstraction to experiment and do lots of commissioned paintings. I enjoy incorporating bright colors and nature into my pieces.
Bio: Lily Johnson is a Ball State Student born and raised in Muncie. She is currently studying studio art major and plans to pursue a degree in Visual Communications and become a graphic designer. Her love of creating, specifically painting, began at the age of 3. Her interest in art stems from watching her uncle, Christopher ‘Bubba” Smith, draw. He has inspired her to create since his death in 2009. She works part time at the Barking Cow and enjoys nature, which is reflected in her work.
