Artist: Ab Harris
Title: Thingo!
Location: McGalliard and Barr
Statement: I’ve lived in Muncie all my life, and one thing that always stood out to me about this town is how much people dislike driving around it. the potholes, the endless construction, and stoplights that seem to go on forever, these all contribute to the infamous “Mocal road rage”. My goal with my bright colored design is to give people who are sitting around in traffic something to look at while they’re waiting. Art is a vital part of my life, so it would be a great opportunity if I could put a little bit of myself into my hometown.
So…. what are the weird, table looking things that are painted all over my box? (box?) Around the time that I submitted this design for Box! Box! last year, they didn’t really go by anything. However, I’m excited to announce they now have a name: thingos. What is a thingo? It’s a creature that came to me in a dream. I realized I was lucid dreaming, and I asked myself, “what is the dumbest thing I can come up with?” Out of the darkness, a thingo appeared. I woke myself up by laughing too hard. I love them, and my friends love them, too! I hope thingos will make Muncie smile as much as they’ve made me smile.
Bio: Ab Harris is a Muncie artist who has been drawing cartoons for as long as they can remember. Growing up, they found comfort in internet art forums like Newgrounds and Deviantart, but nowadays they prefer to keep their horrible art to themselves. Ab enjoys including bright colors and sharp linework in their art, whether it’s in their sketchbook or on their drawing monitor. There is nothing in life that they love more than a cat with a fat tummy, clean line art, and a nice chai latte.
Ab is a sophomore at Ball State University (Fall 2021) and is pursuing a BFA in Animation. After graduating, they plan to work in the animation industry as a storyboard artist and create web comics in their spare time.
