Artist: Maya Doss
Title: BUG!
Location: Memorial and Hoyt Avenue
Project Statement:
Bugs are one of the weirdest, most misunderstood animals. They’re small, but resilient & unique. These are all things I associate with Muncie, my hometown. My box has a base of a sage green, and then is decorated in brightly colored and patterned bugs, intended to boost morale and to keep Muncie weird.
Artist Bio:
My name is Maya Doss. You probably recognize my name from my previous Box! Box!- "Grow!". I am a freelance artist, raised and living in Muncie. My art is my therapy and I create to stay alive. It is like alchemy- transforming emotions into artwork, a language not spoken, but seen, interpreted, and personally interwoven with someone else's experience. That is why I am applying again. My first box is no longer standing, but I want to continue to bring art into my community. I believe art is intrinsic to the human condition, and it is my goal as an artist to uplift and inspire fellow Muncie dwellers to tap into their inner artist, in whatever way that means to them. My art tends to be created out of resourcefulness, using second hand pieces as my canvas. Preserving the natural world is very important to me, and Mother Earth inspires much of my work, so it only makes sense to me to make use of what is already here, begging for a new breath of life. The boxes inspire me, too in this way. If you care to see the art I keep talking about, I'd love it if you visited @mayadossart on Instagram.
