Original Performance directed by Derek Spencer (Los Angeles, CA), featuring an ensemble of students from the Ball State Department of Theatre and Dance, led by teaching professor Veronica Santoyo. Fury will run for four nights, opening Thursday, April 21, 2022 through Sunday, April 24, 2022. All performances will be held in the Heritage Room on the second floor of Cornerstone Center for the Arts, starting at 7:30pm. This performance is rated PG-13 for language and discussions of violence. Opening Reception on April 21 from 5-7 PM.
Joshua Challen Ice (Pittsburgh, PA) has created an immersive art installation, High Maintenance, that pays homage to the Cornerstone Center for the Arts’ historic building. Opening Reception, April 21 from 5-7 PM. Daily open hours from 5-8 PM from April 21-25.
Derek Spencer will will direct his cast and crew through an open rehearsal at 7pm on Thursday, April 7th in the PlySpace Gallery. Please join Derek and his cast for a brief interactive and immersive experience. No prior experience is required. This event is free and open to the public, but seating is limited.
Derek Spencer (Los Angeles, CA) will present an artist talk about his past projects and process on Tuesday, April 5 at 7:00pm in the Arts and Journalism building, room 225, on the campus of Ball State University. This event is free and open to the public. Masks are recommended, but not required.
Join PlySpace and Ball State University School of Art for the visiting artist lecture for PlySpace Resident Fellow Joshua Ice. Ice will speak about his work and answer questions about his practice and project he plans to complete while in Muncie.
Jordan Delzell will host a one night exhibition and artist talk on Thursday, December 9, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm in the PlySpace Gallery (608 E Main Street, Muncie). this exhibition will showcase sculptural tools and installations that assist her in teaching and sharing the recycling process. Objects for measuring, holding and presenting paper in its various forms of transition will be shown as well as larger scale installations that illustrate the paper recycling process. By creating these objects and environments, Jordan looks forward to further exploring how her art practice can be pedagogical—a way of learning with paper, people and place. This event is free and open to the public. Masks are required.

“Recycling as a Creative Practice: Paper-making with Found Materials”, which will be held on Saturday, December 4, at 3:00 pm, is a free workshop that will introduce participants to the basics of paper-making using everyday materials that can be found in or near Muncie. Discarded paper, lint and plants will be blended, forming a pulp that can be used to create stationary, functional vessels or sculptural objects. By using discarded items that can be sourced in Muncie we will take collective action to reduce items in the local waste stream while also learning a fun and creative process that requires little experience, equipment and monetary investment. PlySpace, the artist in residence program of the Muncie Arts and Culture Council (MuncieArts) presents a one-night only artist talk and performance by PlySpace Resident, Camila Ortiz on Thursday, October 21 at 6:30 pm in the PlySpace Gallery. Ortiz will perform “touching the stove coil”, a collection of songs she created during the month of October while at PlySpace. The songs are explorations of personal and family histories interwoven with scenes from her time in Muncie, and will be performed on guitar, voice, and electronics. This event is free and open to the public. Masks are required.
PlySpace, invites emerging writers to attend “Building A Career as a Literary Artist”, an all-day in-person workshop facilitated by PlySpace Resident, Lyzette Wanzer. “Building A Career As A Literary Artist” will take place on Saturday, October 9, from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm at Carnegie Library in Downtown Muncie. This event is free and in partnership with Muncie Public Libraries. Masks are required. Space is limited and registration is required. Sign up today.
PlySpace, the artist in residence program of The Muncie Arts and Culture Council is excited to announce “First Sonatas”, the artist talk and piano recital featuring PlySpace Artist in Residence, Jung Sun Kang. “First Sonatas” will take place in the E.B. Ball Auditorium of Cornerstone Center for the Arts on Friday, August 27, from 6:30 to 7:30 pm. “First Sonatas” will serve as the world premiere of Kang’s sonata composed while at the PlySpace Artist Residency in Muncie. This event is free and open to the public, all ages welcome. Masks are required for this event. RSVP is preferred but not required. You can RSVP here.
Open Curiosity: An Exploration of Material as Metaphor, a four part online workshop, invites participants to release their expectations about “Art-making” and embrace process-driven, open-ended inquiries. Participants will use simple basketry techniques to consider relationships- both physically/structurally and metaphorically/philosophically. The sessions will include discussion and interaction among workshop participants, with facilitation by Summer 2021 Virtual PlySpace Resident, Carrie Dickason, and will culminate in an online Instagram exhibition with a map of participants’ locations and their individual works.

Resident Heather Van Winckle presents a homemade candlepin bowling alley at the Muncie Mall. The bowling project, Main Stream, will be located inside a vacant storefront at the Mall (near JC Penney and across from Country Charm) and will be open to the public during select times from October 27th to November 4th, 2018.
